Caring to Comfort
The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:4, "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted." This verse tells us so much about how the Bible views our grief. The Bible does not see grief as something that must be given up or rushed through or something that must be overcome. It doesn't see grief as something that must be buried behind a smile or a celebration. The Bible not only acknowledges those who grieve and mourn but pronounces a special blessing upon them. It gently reminds us that while we mourn, we shall find comfort through the Comforter. God knew our world and lives would be filled with heart breaking sorrow and difficulties, and He made provision before the need. John 14: 16 and 18 states, "And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever;...I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you."
Like our Father, the Son and the Spirit, we should be devoted to comforting others even when we need comfort ourselves. In the act of comforting, we also shall be comforted.
